She was just four years old when she began dabbling in the kitchen. Over the decades, she continued to keep detailed notes, with [...]

Parasitic pest with your Apple, Sir?

by jwmcgregor on August 31, 2011

We are constantly urged to buy local. Support our farmers. It’ fresher, cheaper, better for you, better for the farmer. Well, here’s another reason to buy local. And to go that step further…take action and let our politicians know through an email or letter that we are not happy. The introduction of pests and parasites [...]

Are GM Crops a Threat to Our Local Farmers?

by Vicki on August 23, 2011

Farmers face huge problems. If it’s not drought, it’s flood. If it’s not flood, it’s insect or rodent plague. We know they are at the mercy of nature. That is what being a farmer is about. The dominance of large corporations use their buying power to buy low and sell high…we see it in supermarkets [...]

Doesn’t it Make Sense to Buy Local?

by Vicki on July 21, 2011

I don’t know about you, but to me it seems like a lot of good common sense to buy locally, especially when purchasing fresh produce. By produce, I don’t just mean fruit and vegetables. Purchasing my fruit and vegetables from the farmer, I know that if they haven’t grown it themselves, they know the person [...]

What did you miss out on last week?

by Vicki on March 29, 2011

Regulars at the Camden Produce Markets are aware of the variety of goods sold. But it’s not just a place to but, it’s also a place to stop and have a chat with friends, some who we may see regularly, others we not have seen in a long time. You may even see some minor ( or perhaps major) celebrities.

Having said that, you may be aware that VERY fresh eggs and poultry can be purchased at the market. But did you know that live chickens are available also. And they are very talented chooks indeed! Did you see them?

Not Just a Great Place to Shop

by Vicki on March 25, 2011

We are all aware that Produce markets are great places to get your weekly shopping. What else could you find at a produce market? Let your imagination run wild. The only reason you would have to go near a supermarket is to buy toilet paper. Who knows, you may be able to find that too! It can be beautiful.Sometimes it is the actual setting of the produce market, or it may be the drive to it, or both. A great place to grab a drink, a bit of breakfast, even lunch, take a seat and enjoy. Share it with some friends, catch up, chat, or simply relax in the atmosphere. Definitely a plus.
